A letter from The Coordinator addressing local energy policy.

If we are to stand a chance of reaching a net global increase in temperatures of only 1.5º we are going to have increase the amount of electricity from solar energy by seven times by 2030 says the latest report from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Telford and Wrekin council agrees that there is a Climate Emergency and that it has to be part of the solution for it’s residents. Unfortunately not at the expense of losing its NIMBYs votes when it comes to opposing solar farms at Steeraway and New Works on farm land and reclaimed pit wastelands. Of course, if the Council were to tell the truth about the existential harm that’s being diarised into the lives of our children then even hardened NIMBYs might change their priorities.
